`50K relief to labourer’s kin
The National Human Rights Commission has asked the Delhi government to pay `50,000 to the next of kin of a labourer who had died by drowning in Delhi Jal Board pit.
The NHRC came down heavily on the DJB’s plea that it did not have any liability towards the labourer as he was hired by the contractor.
Meanwhile, the DJB had informed the Commission that the contractor of the private firm, which engaged the labourers for the job, has paid `1,35,000 as compensation to the father of the deceased.
The chief secretary, government of NCT Delhi, to submit a compliance report, with payment details, within six weeks.
