4th accused in Dhaula Kuan gangrape held
The fourth accused in Dhaula Kuan gangrape was arrested by south Delhi police on Saturday from Sohna in Haryana.
Police sources revealed that the accused, identified as Iqbal, alias Bada Billi, 25, who is allegedly involved in a case of rape in the past, was arrested from Sohna by a special team of south Delhi police on Saturday evening. Sources said Iqbal has cases of cow-slaughtering registered against him as well. With his arrest, the number of accused held in the case has gone up to four. The fifth accused Kamru, alias Mobile, 25, is still on the run.
Meanwhile, a test identification parade of the two accused held in the gangrape of the Mizo call centre employee in Dhaula Kuan was conducted at the Tihar Jail on Saturday. Police officials said the victim, who was sexually assaulted by a gang of five men, identified the two accused Shamshad, 25, and Usman, 25, who were held in Mewat region of Haryana on Thursday. The victim told the cops that the two men were involved in the assault on her. Sources said the victim’s statement was recorded and sealed to be later used as evidence against the two suspects when the trial in the case begins.
In the meantime, the hunt for Kamru is on with the police searching for him in Mewat region where he is believed to be hiding. Police officials said several teams are searching for Kamru, who is evading arrest in the case. Shamshad and Usman were arrested earlier in the case.
“Kamru escaped after encountering a police party in Mewat region on Friday. A police team is chasing him and he will be arrested soon,” a source said. Senior police officials however refused to comment on the incident.
“Kamru is the leader of “Mobile” Gang. Search is on at many places in the NCR to catch him,” a senior police official said. The police cracked the case on Wednesday night after a raid in Mewat, Haryana.
Meanwhile, the country’s first woman IPS officer Kiran Bedi said on Saturday that the absence of preventive policing was resulting in crimes like gangrape committed by repeat offenders.
“Crimes such as gangrape etc., committed by repeat offenders is proof of absence of preventive policing. Supervisors must be held accountable for such re-offending,” she said on a social networking site.
