4 held for staging Muthoot robbery
The Delhi police on Sunday arrested four persons, including two employees of a private finance firm, for allegedly staging a robbery of `80 lakhs.
A senior police official said that 2.3 kg gold and `10 lakhs in cash have been recovered from them.
The accused were identified as Amit Advani, Sandeep Khatri, Srijeet and Girish Chand. The official said on May 30 a PCR call informed about a robbery in Karol Bagh area.
A police team visited the spot and met Girish, a office boy working with Muthoot Finance.
Girish told the police that he and assistant manager Srijeet had gone to Lajpat Nagar to bring some jewellery. While they were returning, two persons travelling on a motorcycle intercepted them and robbed their bag containing 3.4 kg gold and cash in front of their office in Karol Bagh.
As per the version of Girish, the assistant manager had gone to the branch with his bag and he was alone when the incident took place.
“We lodged an FIR in this respect but found contradictions in the statement made by Girish. There was no other eyewitness of the incident. Girish and Sirjeet were then interrogated. They broke down and confessed their involvement in the crime. They revealed that they staged the robbery with the help of their two friends Sandeep and Amit,” said the police official.
The police officer said that a team then conducted a raid at their instance and arrested Sandeep and Amit too.
