4 held for attack on police team
Four bootleggers were arrested for allegedly attacking a Delhi police team during a raid in Sangam Vihar area. One of the accused had suffered a gun wound in the incident while three policemen were suffered injured.
A senior police official said the accused have been identified as Hari, Rahul, Rajkumar and Raj. Head constable Sanjay Tyagi and constables Satpal and Vijay Kumar were injured in the incident.
The police had got a tip-off that a local criminal Hari Singh was indulging in bootlegging following which a raid was conducted in K Block.
“A team conducted the raid and found Hari Singh distributing illicit liquor and his family helping him. The police overpowered his son Rahul. Meanwhile, Hari Singh and his associates started pelting stones at the cops and thrashed them with sticks. Hari and Rahul tried to snatch constable Satpal’s revolver,” said the official.
In a bid to protect himself, Satpal opened fire. The bullet hit Rajkumar in his leg. The accused got scared and fled.
The injured accused and policemen were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre. The police filed an FIR and arrested three more persons on Wednesday following a tip-off.
