3 molest woman, slit husband’s throat; 2 nabbed

Three men allegedly molested a woman and slit the throat of her husband when he intervened. The incident took place near Talkatora Stadium in the New Delhi district.

Speaking to this newspaper, the additional commissioner of police, New Delhi district, S.B.S. Tyagi said the police has arrested two accused and an FIR has been registered in this respect under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 341(wrongful restraint) and 509 (outraging modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Chanakyapuri police station.
The accused have been identified as Raju, alias Raj Kumar, Babloo and Dinesh.
The victim, who lives in Zakir Nagar, was on her way home in car with her husband and sister-in-law after meeting relatives in South Delhi.
“In New Delhi district area, the woman fell sick and asked her husband Zakir to stop the car. She alighted from the car to answer the nature’s call. When she was coming back to the car, she stumbled on the road. Meanwhile, the accused approached her and passed lewd remarks following which the victim’s husband intervened. The accused threatened him of dire consequence,” said the police source.
The victim asked her husband not to argue following which the couple sat in the car but the accused chased and intercepted them. Babloo got down from the taxi and hit the victim’s husband Zakir with a stick. When the victim rushed to his rescue they beat her too.
“The accused slit Zakir’s throat with a knife. Meanwhile, a mob gathered at the spot on hearing the commotion and nabbed Raju, alias Raj Kumar. The locals took Zakir to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and informed the police,” said the police official.
The official said Zakir was discharged on Saturday evening and his condition was stable. Babloo was arrested following a raid while the third accused is still absconding, the police said.
