3 held for rape bid in Kanjhawala

Three men were arrested for attempting to rape a woman and her niece in Kanjhawala on Thursday.
The victims, a woman, 32, and her niece, 22, residents of Sharda JJ Colony, said that on February 21 morning they boarded an auto driven by Sanjeev on their way to a bus stop. But he took them to his residence where his friends joined him, a police officer said.

The accused forced them inside and pounced on them, the police said. “However, the women managed to escape but did not file a complaint fearing social stigma. While the 22-year-old victim went to Uttar Pradesh as planned, her aunt told her husband that some men had attempted to rape her,” said the officer.
The police initially registered a case of molestation but later converted it to attempted rape after the niece came back and decided to pursue the matter. “We have arrested the trio and booked them for attempt to rape,” the officer added.
