2 suspected dowry deaths, 2 arrested

A 25-year-old married woman was found dead under mysterious circumstance in Khanpur area of south Delhi on Tuesday.
Her body was found outside her house. The family members of the deceased have alleged that she might have been strangled to death by her husband and his family.
A senior police official said the deceased was identified as Sudha. She got married with Anil on May 1 this year. Initially, they had been living in Jawahar Park area in Khanpur but shifted into a rented accommodation two months ago.
A police source said that on Tuesday morning, Sudha was found dead outside her house. Her husband Anil informed the cops and her father about the incident.
“The police rushed Sudha to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead,” said the police official.
The victim’s family alleged that Anil and his family was demanding dowry from them and they used to beat Sudha over petty issues. The victim family alleged that Anil and his family wanted to construct a house and were demanding money.
The police said that an FIR has been registered in this respect with Neb Sarai police station. The police has also initiated an SDM level inquiry over the incident.
A police source said Anil, the husband the deceased, was arrested by the police in connection with dowry death.
In a related incident in Faridabad, a woman was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws for not meeting their dowry demands, the police said on Wednesday. The victim has been identified as Shabnam, a native of Uttar Pradesh, they said.
In an FIR, Shabnam’s father has alleged that her husband and in-laws used to harass her over dowry even after two years of marriage, a police official said.
The father in the complaint has also claimed that his daughter called him up on Tuesday to inform that her in-laws were demanding `50,000 and had threatened to kill her if the demand was not met, the police said.
According to him, the victim’s husband and in-laws killed her on Tuesday night and cremated the body on Wednesday morning without informing about it to her family.
A case of dowry death has been registered and the woman’s husband, Virendra Singh, has been arrested, the police said.
