2 robbed of gold worth `27 lakhs
Four assailants travelling in an SUV robbed two persons of gold worth `27 lakhs in central Delhi on Sunday morning.
Police officials said the victims, Rajesh Mandal, 19, and Sunil Machi, 32, were on their way to deliver 1.5 kg of gold jewellery to a customer in Sangpura. The incident took place at around 5.30 am, when the victims, who were in an autorickshaw, were intercepted by the assailants near Ajmal Khan Road, Karol Bagh.
“The assailants asked the two victims to get out of the autorickshaw. The assailants were armed with iron rods and hit Rajesh when he got out of the vehicle and snatched the bag containing 1.5 kg of gold jewellery from him,” a senior police official said. Interestingly, Sunil was carrying a bag with around 3 kg of gold jewellery but the assailants left it untouched.
The gold was owned by one Ravinder Nath Mandal, a jeweller in Karol Bagh, who is a distant uncle of the victims. No arrests have been made in the case.
