2 cops among six held for extortion
The police has arrested six persons, including two of its own constables and a woman, for allegedly running a a sex and extortion racket in Rani Bagh area in the city.
Among the six accused, Pawan Kumar and Manoj Kumar are constables in the Delhi police. The other accused have been identified as Vijay, Neeraj Kumar, Sunny and his wife.
According to the police, the woman posed as a prostitute and lured customers to a place which was decided by the gang. The woman then made a call to her associates who conducted a fake raid posing as crime branch officials to extort money from the victim.
“A complainant approached the crime branch few days back and said that some police officials from the crime branch extorted `3 lakhs from him. He said that a woman lured him to a room where the alleged crime branch officials conducted a raid and threatened to book him under the sections of rape. The impostors demanded `6 lakhs to spare him and extorted `3 lakhs from him,” said a senior police official.
Members of the special investigation team (SIT) and the anti-extortion cell (AEC) used technical surveillance and after thorough investigation nabbed Sunny, Neeraj, Vijay, Delhi police constables — Pawan and Manoj — and the woman involved in the racket.
“Sunny said that he and his wife were running a brothel in Rani Bagh when they came in contact with Neeraj who introduced them to constable Manoj and an ex-homeguard Vijay. They formed a gang and planned to extort the clients who used to visit the woman for sex. They also involved few other women to lure clients for extortion,” said the official.
The accused have disclosed several other incidents of extortion in Delhi at various places which are yet to be verified.
