16 held rioting in Southwest Delhi
A minor scuffle between two groups in southwest Delhi’s Bindapur area turned into a violent clash between two communities and left dozens injured on Sunday evening.
The police said the incident took place in a JJ cluster at Bindapur at around 10 pm on Sunday.
“A group of youngsters had purchased beer and were returning home when they were confronted by youngsters from another community who tried to snatch the liquor ,” a senior police official said.
The argument turned into a major clash between communities when the news spread in the area. “Within minutes, the two communities living in the JJ cluster clashed and indulged in stone pelting causing injuries to scores of people. A PCR call was made by a local and the injured were rushed to DDU Hospital,” the official said
It was only when senior police officials arrived with a huge contingent of police force that the situation was brought under control. “We have arrested 15 people rom and they have been charged under Section 308 IPC and rioting,” DCP (southwest), A.K. Ojha said.
“We have taken all measures to ensure peace and safety in the area,” DCP Ojha said.
