11 more dengue deaths in city
With eleven more dengue deaths reported in city on Tuesday, the municipal authorities suspended two top officials from the north corporation for failing to check the rising cases. The death toll due to dengue has risen to 16 in the city.
Meanwhile, the New Delhi Municipal Council has also issued challans to three high profile addresses in the posh Lutyens’ Delhi — Tata House, Atlas House and Ranbaxy House — as these building premises were detected with breeding of dengue causing mosquito.
The city has witnessed an increase of almost 50 per cent in the cases of dengue in the last four days, officials said, adding that maximum cases are generally reported during September-end due to favourable conditions for breeding of mosquitoes.
North Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Azad Singh said, “We received reports of 11 more deaths from the Shahbad Daulatpur area in the Rohini zone on Tuesday. We have already suspended the deputy health officer and malaria inspector of the Rohini zone with immediate effect, and also issued stern warning to the MHO.”
The mayor also visited the affected areas in Rohini and took stock of the situation and said that “mobile dispensaries will be stationed here from tomorrow”.
According to the official MCD report, a total of 1,355 cases were reported till Monday.
The mayor said, “I came to see the situation here in Rohini after hearing about the new death cases and I will also inspect it again tomorrow at 4 pm.”
Chief medical officer R.N. Singh said, “Tata, Atlas and Ranbaxy House have been issued challans as breeding of dengue causing mosquitoes has been found in their areas after an inspection by NDMC.”
The challans have been issued to the caretakers. The Ranbaxy House is on Prithviraj Road while Tata House is on Aurangzeb Road. The Atlas House is in Aurangzeb lane.
