‘Utsav Sharma ill, needs treatment’
A team of psychologists, who examined Utsav Sharma, currently in jail for assaulting Rajesh Talwar in Ghaziabad court premises, have opined that he is mentally ill and needs treatment.
According to a senior officer of Dasna jail, Utsav was examined by psychologists Nupur Niharia and Susheel Avana a few days ago. They opined that Utsav needs treatment as he is mentally disturbed.
The prison authorities on Friday filed a plea before the chief judicial magistrate D.D. Ojha, who asked the CMO to submit a report in this regard. The court is likely to pass an order on March 15.
Earlier this month, the Allahabad high court has reserved its judgement on the bail plea filed by Utsav.
Utsav had attacked Dr Talwar, now an accused in the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case, with a cleaver on January 25. He was arrested immediately.
The police had later said that though Utsav’s act appeared to have been carried out by a man who has lost mental balance, the parents of the accused had claimed that he was indeed suffering from mental illness and presented medical records to substantiate the claim.
