‘Traffic snarls reflect growing prosperity’
The Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit while speaking at a seminar organised by the Ficci organisation on Tuesday stated that: “Long traffic snarls at busy intersections in the city may be a nightmare for motorists but the choked roads, in a way, reflect growing prosperity of citizens in Delhi.”
While answering a query on the growing traffic problem in Delhi, she further added, “We often hear complaints of motorists getting stuck in traffic jams but too much traffic in Delhi is also an indication that Delhi has become a city whose citizens can afford cars more than two or three cars.”
Ms Dikshit was on Tuesday addressing a gathering of industry captains organised by Ficci. Ms Dikshit said her government has been trying to improve the transport infrastructure in the city and as part of the effort 47 flyovers and a number of road underpasses have been built in the last few years.
“We are also trying to improve the public transport system considering the growing need of the city,” she said. Ms Dikshit said government was also determined to streamline the system under which new parking facilities will be set up across the city.
