‘Singh dealt in adulterated cement too’

The Delhi crime branch officials interrogating the Lalita Park building collapse accused Amritpal Singh Sachdeva claimed to have recovered documents of a factory in Ghaziabad from where Singh and his associates were allegedly pursuing the business of selling adulterated cement.

Top police sources said that during search operations conducted by the crime branch sleuths at R-36 and R-72 residences of Amritpal Singh in Ramesh Nagar, east Delhi, documents of various deals regarding a cement factory in Ghaziabad were found. Sources said Singh, who has been involved in adulteration cases in the past as well, may still have been pursuing the business by using the rent he collected from tenants of the buildings he owns in east Delhi.
Sources also claimed that Singh has spilled the beans about the involvement of a senior politician and some senior officials of Delhi police and MCD whom he used to bribe for running his cement business. “Singh claimed that he used to pay them on monthly basis for allowing him to run his cement adulteration business. He also claimed that the politician and some MCD officials helped him in the 80’s to procure cement from government as it was distributed on the basis of ration cards,” a top source said.
“Singh has a cement factory in Loni and some papers show that he was building apartments in Loni in 2006. Some documents show that he put around `4 crores to buy a land in Prahladgadi, Old Loni,” a source said.DCP (crime) Ashok Chand told this newspaper that the crime branch was investigating Singh for fixing criminal liability in the case. “It’s too early to say anything.” Sources said some papers recovered from his residence hint at his ownership of shops in the cloth market of Ramesh Nagar. Meanwhile, a city court extended the police custody of Singh by two days.
