‘Local shops create chaos in posh area’
Expressing concern over the local shopping centres, meant for catering needs of residents of a colony, being converted into posh markets providing specialised goods and services, the Delhi high court has said that it is “not permissible” under the law.
Dismissing the petition of a businessman, Mahesh Chand Goyal, a division bench comprising Justices Vikramjit Sen and A.K. Pathak said, such practice, which is prevalent in several parts of the city, including GK-II, should not be allowed as it not only causes inconvenience to residents of the area, but they also suffer the “nuisance” of customers coming from all other places for shopping.
The division bench said, we have seen several aberrations while using the land in Delhi, leading to grave inconvenience and harassment to the local residents.
“This makes the local residents face not just inconvenience of having to travel to other markets for services which were initially intended to be available there, but also to suffer the nuisance of customers coming from all other areas to shop at the local area,” they said.
