‘Killers’ of Talwar lawyer’s mom arrested
Two men have been arrested in a joint operation by the special cell and the east Delhi police for allegedly killing Anna Mammen, the 79-year-old mother of Rebecca John, the defence counsel in Aarushi Talwar murder case, at Vivek Vihar in east Delhi on March 8. The police has recovered the robbed jewellery and `80,000 from the accused.
The police said that the accused killed the victim, as they feared that she would identify them later.
Investigations into the case had indicated that the entry was friendly and robbery was the motive as jewellery and cash were missing. The special cell of Delhi police joined the investigations with east Delhi police. As the police scoured through the movements of robbers in the area, it came to light that a man earlier involved in robbery incidents had been spending lavishly and had bought a new motorcycle. He was detained by the special cell for questioning during which he confessed to having killed Ms Mammen.
The special cell arrested Samir Khan, 20, a resident of Trilokpuri. At his instance, the police arrested the other accused Imran, alias “Murgi Chor”, (21) of Trilokpuri.
The special cell recovered two gold bangles, a gold ring, chain, biscuit, a locket, the motorcycle and `81,000 from Samir.
The east Delhi police recovered two bangles, a gold ring, chain and gold biscuit from Imran. They told the police that on March 8, they managed to gain entry into the house of Ms Mammen, as Imran, by virtue of having carried out white washing, knew her. After the robbery, they realised that she may reveal their identity and decided to eliminate her.
