Want Delhi to bring home the trophy

Back home. This is that Delhi weather that I talked about in one of my earlier columns. You should come to Delhi to experience this transition….and also experience the Formula One. It is some thrill.

Also, I met Mark Webber on Wednesday for a promotional event. What a great guy to know. As a kid he used to play with Brad Haddin but then (thankfully!) moved off cricket and on to F1.
Apart from his cricketing memories in Australia and a really strong handshake we shared a few other things. I asked him how he prepares for a race. Cleverly he didn’t spell that out (I should have realised that he is an Aussie and would never let these things out) but told me a few very apt things.
Mark said that sometimes experience can be counter-productive. In his opinion, experience is sometimes like a monkey sitting on the back which keeps chirping things in your ear. And instead of flowing with the moment, one tends to do things differently. I am not sure, I think experience is like a handbook which one can refer in different moments.
But I agree with his other thought. He emphasised the need to keep things simple. Mark said that his coach keeps telling him to do the same things that he always did as this will give him the best chance to succeed.
Another sport that I am really passionate about is hockey. The hockey league is round the corner and I am really looking forward to it. No points for guessing that I will be supporting the Delhi camp sitting at the Dhyan Chand Stadium. I hope the owners find a nice, aggressive name for the Delhi hockey team.
What I love about this sport is its pace, skill and energy exhibited for 70 minutes. You know I was really trying to watch one hockey game during the 2010 World Cup in Delhi, but somehow it never materialised. Lets see if I am granted this wish this time.
Coming to the Champions League T20, I really wish by the time your read this, the Delhi Daredevils are in the final. I think they have an all-round attack and enough depth in their batting lineup to cause some damage. And like I said earlier I really, really wish the trophy is brought back to India.
From the other semi-final, my hunch is that Sydney Sixers should be able to get through to the final. They have some real tall fast bowlers and playing at Centurion the conditions should suit them more than it will the Titans.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
