Rest from Tests, hints Dhoni
Indian cricket captain M.S. Dhoni hinted Tuesday he might stay away from Tests for fitness reasons. He, however, reiterated he wanted to play World Cup 2015.
Dhoni claimed “his comments [on retirement] were blown out of proportion” and maintained he might not be able to continue playing both ODIs and Tests if he had to play World Cup.
“I made a comment on the Australia tour that I will see in 2013 where my body stands to play the next World Cup. If I am not fit enough, I’ll give way to youngsters,” he told a press conference in Chennai.
“If I can play one format, I’ll pick ODI. But it’s not like I am retiring now.”
This is the third time Dhoni has spoken of retirement from Tests, and it is not without reason. Captain Cool may have won the 2007 T20 and 2011 ODI World Cups, but his performance in Tests abroad has been below par.
