Ponting slams Warne for Twitter comments
Beaten Australian captain Ricky Ponting has come out strongly against Shane Warne for comments he made on tactics during the second Test in Bengaluru. The legendary leg-spinner had slammed Ponting for what he said were unhelpful field placements for Nathan Hauritz. Warne had posted on Twitter "How the hell can Hauritz bowl to this field?? Feeling for Hauritz, terrible!! What are these tactics? Sorry Ricky but what are you doing?"
Warne saw red as the offie bowled to a predominantly leg-side field with deep point, long-on and long-off, slip, short-leg and leg slip.
But Ponting insisted the field was the bowler's choice: "Every field that Nathan's had to bowl with since he's been here is at his request, it's the fields that he wants to bowl to," said the Australia skipper.
"Unfortunately it doesn't appear that Shane would take the time to ask anyone about that.
"Warne's got his opinion out in the public at the moment, and it's a personal opinion. Different people say things at different times, we don't always agree with all of them, that's life I guess.
"It would be nice if they were a bit more informed before they made some of their comments though."
Needless to say, Hauritz was hardly a success.
