Peter Roebuck 'sexually assaulted' student
Fresh allegations in the Peter Roebuck death case have emerged with a student claiming the acclaimed journalist had sexually assaulted him in a South African hotel.
Britain's The Sun reported that it was 26-year-old Itai Gondo's complaint that had sparked a South African police interrogation of Roebuck, hours before his suicide.
Gondo said the former Sommerset cricketer had spent 'days talking to him' over Facebook and had also promised to 'help him with university fees'.
The British tabloid then adds that Gondo, a poor Zimbabwe refugee, met with Roebuck following the chat and was sexually assaulted by him.
"I was in shock and told myself that it couldn't be happening," Gondo was quoted by the The Sun. The attack only stopped when the a mobile phone rang, the report adds.
Gondo then goes on to tell the tabloid that he had even considered 'suicide' and that Roebuck had 'ruined' his life.
Police in South Africa were later informed of the attack by Gondo himself.
Peter Roebuck, 55, was found dead at a Cape Town hotel on Sunday, November 13, with police confirming the death as suicide.
Reports from South Africa said Roebuck threw himself out of a sixth-floor window at a hotel in Newlands, Cape Town. Australia's Herald Sun wrote that Roebuck 'landed on the awning outside the hotel entrance'.
