Pelican Club clinch title
Pelican Club won the S. Rao Memorial Cup after beating fancied Sonnet Club by 21 runs in the final. The match was a low-scoring affair but the Pelican bowlers proved handy when it mattered to help the team.
Batting first, Pelican Club posted 194/7 in 40 overs. Virender topscored with 35. Suraj (22) was the only other notable contributor on the scorecard. Ayush Badoni (3/26) and Divya (3/27) bowled incisive spells and did not allow the batsmen easy scoring opportunities.
In reply, Sonnet Club folded up for 173 in 37.4 overs. Sanath Sangwan (54) hit the only half century of the match but his effort went in vain as Pelican’s bowlers rose to the occasion and clinched the win.
Lovepreet Singh (4/26) led from the front with the ball for the winners and was ably assisted by Tanmay Badola (3/18) and Vivek (2/23). Singh was later adjudged the best all rounder while Sangwan and Vivek were named best batsman and bowler respectively.
