Morgan can become Test star, predicts Boycott
London, Jul 21: Former England opener Geoff Boycott has predicted that unorthodox batsman Eoin Morgan has the game in place to become a Test star.
Boycott, who built his own reputation as one of the world’s toughest batsmen, has re-released his classic book “Play Cricket The Right Way” a cartoon-style instruction manual on the basics of the game.
Morgan, who made his name in one-day and Twenty20 cricket, can stake his claims for an Ashes berth this winter in the upcoming Test series against Pakistan.
Boycott said fans should not write him off in the longest form of the game because of his switch-hits and reverse-paddle shots in limited overs cricket, The Sun reports.
“The guys that have good technique can play all forms of the game. People say Eoin Morgan is unorthodox, but he’s not. Yes, he can open the face and nudge the ball into gaps,” Boycott said.
“On top of that, because the game has moved on with Twenty20, he has inventive shots. His basic grounding though is very straight, his footwork is good. The fundamentals of his game are there,” he added.
