Lanka cricketers are punished
The Sri Lankan Cricket Board has handed a one-match suspension to off-spinner Suraj Randiv for deliberately bowling a no-ball to Virender Sehwag that denied the opener a century in the triseries league game here on Monday. Randiv, who will not be able to play against New Zealand on Thursday, has also been fined his entire match fee. Tillakaratne Dilshan’s interference in this issue has resulted in his match fee also being docked.
In a statement, SLC said: “We are extremely proud of our team and their achievements over the years. It is of paramount importance to maintain the discipline of the gentlemen’s game, especially with us being winners of the ICC spirit of the game award for two consecutive years.”
It is also reliably learnt that captain Kumar Sangakkara has been strongly advised to ensure there are no repeats of such incidents that bring disrepute to the game and its spirit. Sangakkara had promised a thorough probe into the matter with his teammates on Monday shortly after the match.
