King of Indian cricket turns 32
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni celebrated his 32nd birthday in the Caribbean on Sunday. Dhoni, who has been ruled out from the ongoing tri-series in the West Indies with a hamstring injury, has stayed back to be with the team.
Dhoni is arguably the most succcessful Indian captain, who with the Champions Trophy triumph in England last month, has achieved a rare feat leading the side to a triumph each in the World Cup, the World T20 besides being a part of the no. 1 ranked Test team in the world.
“Here’s wishing a very happy birthday to our captain @msdhoni #HappyBirthdayMahi,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India congratulated the Ranchi boy through its twitter handle.
The man with the midas touch, too, used the microblogging site to thank his followers.
“Thanks everyone for ur good wishes.Ur love,support and blessings means a lot,” Dhoni tweeted.
In his hometown Ranchi, fans, friends and family celebrated the occasion by cutting a cake and distributing sweets at a couple of places.
Dhoni began his career in 2004-05 against Bangladesh as a wicket-keeper batsman and since then his graph has risen like a shooting star.
Dhoni has so far featured in 77 Tests, scoring 4,209 runs at an average of 39.70. In the one-dayers, where he is often considered one of the most feared batsman among the current crop, his numbers are phenomenal — 7,313 runs at an average of 51.13 in the 225 matches.
In T20s, Dhoni has aggregated 748 runs at at average of 31.16.
