IPL spot fixing: Delhi Police play out telephonic conversations between Dawood Ibrahim and bookie
In the latest development in the IPL spot fixing case, Delhi Police played tapes of telephonic conversations between Dawood Ibrahim and a bookie involved in the spot fixing scandal. Delhi Police , who have for long argued that there was a close nexus between the underworld and the betting syndicate will seek to extend the judicial custody of tainted player, Ajit Chandila of Rajasthan Royals.
Although reprimanded by the Court at an earlier stage of the trial for invoking the provisions of the MCOCA against all apprehended in the spot fixing scandal, Delhi Police have maintained that the betting syndicate was hand in glove with the underworld.
While these telephonic conversations can be seen as proof of Delhi Police's claims, it remains to be seen if the Court agrees to extend the custody of Chandila, who it is being reported had ties with an associate of Dawood's called Chotani.
Meanwhile, former Indian Captain and Rajasthan Royals' Captain, Rahul Dravid's statement was recorded by officials of the special cell and he was made a prosecution witness.
