Inter-school T20 championship
The inaugural edition of the Junior Super Kings inter-school T20 championship will commence on September 11.
A total of 32 teams will participate in the knockout tournament that will culminate with the final to be played on September 29.
All matches leading to the semi-final will be played at the St. Bede’s A&B Grounds while semi-finals and final will be played at the India Cements-Gurunanak College Grounds (turf).
There is no age limit for players. All participants must be a bona-fide student of the institution. There is no entry fee for the tournament.
Players will be provided breakfast, lunch and apparels. TNCA qualified umpires and scorers will officiate in the tournament.
The winners and runners will be awarded a replica of the rolling trophy. There will be two awards for the man of the match winner. The latest BCCI T20 rules will be followed. The playing conditions for the tournament will be made available @ www.bcci.tv
Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Kasi Viswanathan said: “The tournament will be an ideal opportunity for youngsters to prove their mettle.
The current edition is only for schools in the city but we will definitely try and do the same in the districts in the future.”
Dr G. Natarajan, honorary secretary, TNCA noted that the event was in keeping in mind the growing need for youngsters to gain experience in the shortest format. “The challenge is to keep T20 cricket among youngsters well coordinated. TNCA will do its best to provide the best possible support.”
Players from the team reaching the semi-finals will be mentored on a long term basis by players from India Cements. All the top schools from the city have confirmed their entry. Santhome HSS will meet Pon Vidyasharam in the opener.
