ICC reprimands furious Ponting
Feb. 23: Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council after damaging a television set in the dressing room following his dismissal during his side’s victory over Zimbabwe in Ahmedabad on Monday,
Ponting accepted the Level 1 charge for breaching clause 2.1.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match.”
The ICC had received a report on the incident from the BCCI after it was sent to them by the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), after which the action was taken over by Sri Lanka match referee Roshan Mahanama.
“Ricky knows that his action was in breach of the code, involving a brief moment of frustration,” Mahanama said. “It was clear that the damage he caused was purely accidental and without malice, he apologized shortly after the incident at the ground.”
The GCA said that Ponting had damaged a television by throwing his glove at it following his run out in the victory over Zimbabwe.
