Heavy rain halts India’s progress
Heavy rainfall has interrupted the sixth and final preliminary match of the Tri-Nation Series between India and Sri Lanka at the Queen’s Park Oval on Tuesday.
Put in to bat after Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews won the toss, India reached 119/3 off 29 overs when the showers arrived.
Should, as is now expected, the match go into a reserve day, it would mean the Sri Lankans playing for four consecutive days as their previous fixture, against the West Indies, was also played over two days.
If a definitive result is not possible even with the use of the reserve day, India would be eliminated with Sri Lanka facing the West Indies in Thursday’s final.
The heavens opened up at the end of the 29th over with opener Rohit Sharma (48) and Suresh Raina (4) at the crease.
Shikhar Dhawan (15), skipper Virat Kohli (31) and Dinesh Karthik (12) were back in the pavilion.
Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath got two wickets while Angelo Mathews got a wicket.
