Englishmen struggle in tour opener
Perth, Nov. 6: England XI received a stark reality check ahead of the Ashes in their three-day match against struggling Western Australia at the WACA grounds here.
After their bowlers had made a positive impression on the first day to keep Western Australia to 242/8 (declared), England XI’s top order batsmen failed to impress on the second day on Saturday. The tourists slumped to 117/7 before an unbeaten half-century from Chris Broad enabled them to declare at 223/8 at tea on the second day.
Scores: Western Australia 242/8 & 109/1 vs England XI 223/8 decl. (Pietersen 58; Magoffin 2/12).
