Dhawan, Kulkarni shine in drawn tie

Dhawal Kulkarni and Iqbal Abdullah wreaked havoc as a dominant India A settled for a draw against Yorkshire in their three-day first-class match here.
The India A batsmen showed their might by rattling up a massive 473/3 before declaring their innings on Day One. Paceman Kulkarni (5/31) and left-arm spinners Abdullah (4/42) then ran through the home side, skittling them out for 219 on the final day on Monday.

The result could have been different but only 10.1 overs were bowled on Day Two because of rain.
Earlier, the Indian batsmen flourished after skipper Cheteshwar Pujara decided to bat. Openers Shikhar Dhawan (179) and Abhinav Mukund (91) laid the platform for a big score with a 201-run stand.
Yorkshire spinner Moin Ashraf separated the pair by dismissing Mukund for 118-ball 91 (12x4, 1x6) but there was no respite for the home team as Ajinkya Rahane joined Dhawan to continue the torment of the bowlers.
Yorkshire’s bowlers were in for some severe punishment as the duo added another 141 runs for the second wicket. Lee Hodgson provided the crucial breaktrhough by removing Dhawan for 179 off 208 balls (26x4, 2x6) but only to see Pujara (55 not out) and Rahane (118, 148b, 15x4, 1x6) weave another big partnership.
The batsmen scored briskly, almost at five runs per over, in the 95 overs they faced before declaring their innings. Yorkshire ended a rain-curtailed second day on 20/2.

Scores: India A 473/3 decl. in 95 overs (Dhawan 179, Rahane 118; Best 1/66) d/w Yorkshire 219 in 91.2 overs (Best 40, Alex Lees 38; Kulkarni 5/31, Abdullah 4/42)

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
