Delhi govt creating hurdles: DSGMC
The Shiromani Akali Dal-controlled Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee on Wednesday laid the foundation of a memorial in the Rakabganj Gurdwara complex here to honour the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The foundation stone-laying function was attended by BJP president Rajnath Singh, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Sawraj, Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Avtar Singh Makkar, Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel and SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal among others.
“The government could not ensure justice to victims of the 1984 riots in the last 28 years. Now, they are opposing construction of a memorial in memory of the victims,” DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK said.
“We have not raised any structure. We have not constructed anything. So, it is beyond our comprehension why the New Delhi Municipal Corporation is opposing it,” said DSGMC president.
He also accused the Delhi government of creating hurdles in construction of the memorial.
The foundation stone of the meorial was laid by Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh.
