Delhi boys to train in London
Delhi teenagers Vikas Dixit and Shivam Chauhan along with Pranjal Puri from Indore have been selected for a specially organised 25-day camp to train under former Somerset cricketer Thomas Webley at the Merchant Taylors’ School in England.
The school is well-known in the English cricketing fraternity and offers world-class facilities in cricket coaching.
The trio were chosen among 12,000 young players, who participated in the eight-month long Coca-Cola Cricket Cup school tournament.
The selections were made at the end of the three-match series where the Coca-Cola XI played against Sri Lanka’s Under-17 in Colombo. Dixit, Chauhan and Puri outperformed 12 others from their team to earn this opportunity.
All-rounder Dixit, best known for his match-saving century against the Sri Lanka U-17, is a student of Salwan Boys High School in the capital.
Representing LB Shastri Cricket Club, he recently claimed all 10 wickets in the DDCA senior division league match. Chauhan, who is from the same school as Dixit, represented Haryana in the Vijay Merchant Trophy in 2011 and was the highest scorer for his team.
Puri is a product of the Residential Cricket Academy in Madhya Pradesh, and came into the spotlight after some brilliant economy rates in the Coca-Cola Cricket Cup.
The three will leave for England on Sunday and are scheduled to return on July 5.
