Cricket: Australia win toss and bat in ODI
Australia won the toss and chose to bat in the tri-series one-day international against Sri Lanka at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday.
The home side, led by former captain Ricky Ponting in place of the injured skipper Michael Clarke, made two changes with veteran paceman Brett Lee replacing Ryan Harris and Mike Hussey coming in for Clarke.
Spinner Xavier Doherty recovered sufficiently from back spasms to keep his place ahead of John Holland, who was brought into the squad overnight as cover.
The Sri Lankans, who have yet to win in three outings in the tournament and tied with India in their last match, made a couple of changes.
Skipper Mahela Jayawardene will open the innings with Tillakaratne Dilshan after Upul Tharanga was left out.
Lahiru Thirimanne returned to the top order while all-rounder Farveez Maharoof replaced off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake.
Australia trail India by one point in the tri-series standings and will take over at the top if they beat Sri Lanka.
