Big guns Delhi Daredevils on Rajasthan Royals’ radar

The Delhi Daredevils may be enjoying their stay on top of the points table, but they cannot take it granted, especially after the narrow win over Rajasthan Royals at the Kotla on Sunday.

The cliffhanger will have shaken a team which has consistently breezed past their opponents. Intriguingly, despite their loss, it is Rajasthan who will take home more positives when the teams meet next at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, here on Tuesday.

The visitors will rely on skipper Virender Sehwag to lead from the front once again. Sehwag, who registered his fourth consecutive half century in the last match, is in blazing form and containing him will be high on Rajasthan’s priority list.

It will also be Kevin Pietersen’s last game, before he leaves for national duty, and the England batsman will look to make it a memorable outing.

Besides, Mahela Jayawardene’s cautious stroke-play makes it easier for big-hitters like Sehwag and Pietersen to go all out at the other end.

As far as the bowling is concerned, Delhi’s fast bowlers have stood up to the task brilliantly. Morne Morkel churned out a match-turning spell on Sunday, while Umesh Yadav backed him up well with a match-winning final over.

For Rajasthan, the arrival of Shane Watson is a huge plus and he could replace Brad Hodge in the eleven. Captain Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane have been in ominous form and can draw inspiration from the way they powered the team’s chase against the table-toppers. Owais Shah is capable of shepherding them in the middle.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
