Bhajji's comeback won’t be easy

Bengaluru: Regarded as one of the best off-spinners India has ever produced, Harbhajan Singh will soon find out that walking back into the Indian side will be the longest walk he has ever had. With more than 400 wickets in his kitty, Bhajji has proved over the years that he is a real match winner and has done the job for his side in the past on numerous occasions.Bhajji's road to fame was his brilliant performance on home soil against a formidable Australian side, who were bamboozled by his doosra and ended up picking up 32 wickets in the series that India won 2-1 against the then No.1 Test playing nation.
Bhajji says he is hungry for moreThere was no looking back from there on for Bhajji as he came of ages as a bowler by adding a whole lot of variety in his armoury. His biggest strength was his flight and the way he used to mix up the arm ball with the doosra, which often kept the batsman guessing.Bhajji kept his form and carried it to the shorter format of the game as well where he picked up wickets when India needed it the most. For a guy who has been doing it for more than a decade, it would be colossal stupidity to doubt his abilities. But as time went by Bhajji lost that flare with the ball.The most disappointing aspect of his bowling was that he lost the flight and started to fire it in, which had more to do with the introduction of T20 cricket. Soon he lost his place to Ravi Chandran Ashwin who added to Bhajji's misery by picking up wickets and took his place in the side as the first spin bowling option.It will definitely not be easy for Bhajji to make a comeback as Ashwin is doing pretty well and ‘The Turbanator’ does not have wickets to show in the domestic competition which will give the selectors an indication that he is back to form. If this was not enough, Bhajji also has to deal with the fact that it is off-season in India with no major cricket going on and to make a strong case for himself, he soon has to come up with a way of picking up wickets and playing as many matches as he can.The Champions League might be a good indicator as one can never rule the Turbanator out and hopefully we will see the same magic again.
