Murky side of cricket
On the 28th of this month, a Monday, author Atul Kumar will be the likely cause of a stir in the cricket world. The anti-corruption activist, winner of the 2011 S.R. Jindal Prize for ‘Crusade against Corruption’ (he exposed the siphoning off of `5,000 crore from Railway funds) will go ahead and claim that the game in India is “staged”, and that whatever is on TV is just a “drama” staged with the active connivance of players, commentators and officials.
Kumar, in his book titled, Inside The Boundary Line — a mix of reality and fiction, will also claim that the sickness affects all levels, from the T20 format, to the revered World Cup. He also borrows from Gambler Bookie Fixer Spy by British author, E.D. Hawkins, who explains the game’s infamous runs and ‘brackets’ system. Following is an interview with Atul Kumar.
