Making shivlings at Kumbh
For him, it is not a photo opportunity or a weekend getaway — it is a way of life, a ritual that he has been following for years. Actor Rajpal Yadav is now a familiar face at the Kumbh Mela. He is a staunch devotee of his guru Devprabhakar Shastri ‘Daddaji’ and spends several days making shivlings out of clay.
The shivlings prepared by the actor will be his contribution to the 1.25 crore shivlings prepared by devotees that will be a part of the Mahayagya to be held in February.
“The shivlings will be submerged in the Ganga and Yamuna and will serve in purifying them. The black loamy soil used in making the shivlings has the tendency to kill microbes in the river,” he explains.
The actor says the experience at the Kumbh Mela and the annual Magh Mela that is held in Allahabad, is rejuvenating for him.
Rajpal strikes a balance between work and his duties as a religious person. “I plan out my work and my life in a disciplined manner. I know that Daddaji takes up this initiative at this time of the year and thus I keep myself free,” he adds.
In the camp at the Kumbh Mela, Rajpal lives like any other ordinary devotee. “That’s the beauty of this life. Everyone is equal. We live together, sleep together, eat together and work together. Material possessions do not draw a line between us and it is here that you realise that money is immaterial,” he says.
