‘I blindly followed the director’

After Sarfarosh, Aamir Khan will once again be seen as a policeman in Talaash and he is quite excited about it. “I liked the suspense in the film and the role is different from any other character I have played,” he says.

Kareena Kapoor plays a prostitute in the film while Rani Mukherjee plays his wife. Aamir, however, refuses to pick a favourite. “For me, all actors are capable of performing to the best of their abilities. Earlier too you guys wanted to know who was my best co-actor. I would say all are best, especially while I am acting with them. I am able to give my best only because they give their best. Actors bring out brilliant results at the behest of their co-actors, so for me both are great actors,” he says, not forgetting to wish Kareena on her marriage to Saif, “We wish her all the very best.”
The music of the suspense thriller was supposed to be released in Mumbai’s red light district, Kamathipura, but the plans changed later. “Yes, it was suggested by some team members. But finally we did not want to take advantage of the situations faced by the people there. Getting recognition or marketing at the cost of others, especially in connection to the area and the prevailing situation, we felt it would be inhuman to do so. We did not want anyone’s misfortune to be instrumental in our promotions. Hence, we decided to release the music normally.”
Though he is known as Mr Perfectionist of Bollywood, Aamir says, “I always follow the captain of the ship blindly. There are some creative differences which are sorted out before we go on the floors. Having played a cop in Sarfarosh, I had done a little research then but for Talaash, I blindly followed Reema.”
“Reema is a fantastic director. I trust her instincts. Her perception is extremely clear and has no room for any doubts. I am very comfortable working with her. This is not the first time I am working with a female director. Earlier, I worked with Kiran, my wife. I am not gender biased. Gender is irrelevant for me,” he adds about the director.
“This film is a suspense thriller and it is also an emotional flick. …Dar to lagta hai har film ke release hone tak, par umeed karta hun ki har film successful ho.”
Praising Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Aamir says, “He has been in all my films from Sarfarosh, to Peepli Live and now in Talaash. He is a meticulous and a very talented actor and keeps audiences glued to him on-screen when he performs.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
