‘I believe in expressing rather than impressing’

Prabhu Deva, who had entered the Rs 100-crore director’s league in Bollywood with Rowdy Rathore, will be acting in ABCD which will release in February next year.

The film is being directed by choreographer turned director Remo D’Souza and Prabhu is confident. “Acting comes easily to me as I have done many films down South. When Remo approached me I could not say no especially because he is a very nice human being. I only told him, ‘Look you are making me dance, so be very careful,’” laughs Prabhu.
“I loved working with Remo. We could not lose even a day as we were paying exorbitant amounts for the film which is being shot in 3D and it had to be completed on time. I confided totally in Remo and he helped me improve my acting as well as my dancing skills,” says Prabhu.
Surprisingly he will not be doing films down South anytime soon, “I am very busy doing films here in Bollywood. Not left with much time, it will not be possible for me to do films down South. However, I do not find many differences between working in Bollywood and Tollywood. The only difference is the language. Being Indian we can manage with Hindi too. I must confess it was slightly difficult for me to say my dialogues in Hindi for ABCD but with the support of God and Remo, I completed the film with flying colours.”
Prabhu is also all praises for filmmaker Boney Kapoor. “I am thankful to him for establishing me in Bollywood. It would not have been possible without him. I consider Boney Kapoor my godfather.” Prabhu is also very clear about his success mantra, “I believe in expressing more than impressing. Whether here in Bollywood or in Tollywood, I will always like to express what I feel and with this mantra slowly and gradually I shall succeed in all my films.”
Whether he acts, directs or choreographs doesn’t make much of a difference to him. “Filmmaking is a team work; you need to concentrate on whatever you do at that point of time . I do my job wholeheartedly, so I find everything very easy.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
