TN judge did not meet CJI

New Delhi, March 19: Justice R. Regupathi of the Madras high court, who was on a personal tour to Delhi, recently took time out to visit the Supreme Court and went around the premises to watch the proceedings.

The Asian Age, edition dated March 11, 2010, carried a news item under the caption “Madras HC judge’s meet with CJI raises eyebrows” and the same was reported without exactly verifying the facts. The judge never met the CJI and such random news was published erroneously. Justice Regupathi, known for his honesty, firmness and high
integrity, visited all the court halls in the Supreme Court on March 10, 2010 and was watching the proceedings for a while. The judge had no “one-to-one” meeting with the CJI as appeared in the middle headline. Expressing regret over the miscatalogued text and clarifying that the consequent comments are unwarranted, the reporter has sent a letter of apology, dated March 19, 2010, to Justice Regupathi.
