Shukla prays wisdom prevails on IPL boss

New Delhi, April 23: Leaving enough hints for beleaguered IPL commissioner Lalit Modi to quit, one of the members of the IPL governing council, Mr Rajiv Shukla, on Friday said he hoped “wisdom” would “prevail upon him”.

Mr Shukla, who is also a vice-president of the BCCI, briefed Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on the ongoing IPL controversy earlier on Friday. He later asserted that the governing council would meet on April 26, as scheduled.
When asked to comment on the fate of Mr Modi as IPL commissioner, Mr Shukla quipped: “Wisdom should prevail upon him.”
Mr Modi’s fate hangs in the balance as the governing council is expected to discuss the IPL controversy amid allegations that “betting and money-laundering” had taken place.
The meeting will deliberate on the details of all IPL franchisees.
But there are reports that Mr Modi may not attend the meeting.
Sources, however, confirmed that the BCCI has the authority under Section 32 of its rules to remove Mr Modi even if the IPL governing council does not give its consent.
