Sailor dies as anti-aircraft gun is fired

New Delhi ,March 13: An Indian Navy sailor died on board the INS Delhi, a destroyer, at Visak-hapatnam harbour on Friday night when the anti-aircraft gun on board went off accidentally.

The sailor, a radio technician at the post of electrical radio artificer, died due to the inadvertent firing of the anti-aircraft gun. The Navy has ordered a court of inquiry. Naval sources said that usually, there is no ammunition in the chambers of the gun when the ship docks at the harbour but in this case, a round appears to have been present in the chamber of the Russian-make AK-360. The moment it was switched on at the harbour, the gun went off, killing the sailor.
