New bill to regulate all clinics
New Delhi, Jan. 28: Intending to curb rampant quackery by unqualified or semi-qualified medical practitioners in the country, the government on Thursday decided to bring all clinical facilities, including pathological laboratories, under the preview of a single piece of legislation.
The Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulation) Bill of 2010 was approved here at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “The bill will apply to even an individual doctor, who has or opens a shop to provide health services to the people. Once passed by Parliament, the states would be free to adopt the law in their effort to regulate and streamline medical facilities in the country,” information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni said after the Cabinet meeting. The main purpose of the law is to provide a legislative framework for the registration and regulation of clinical establishments in the country.Age Correspondent
