alternative radio programming, all hail the net! So googling Ryan Adams led one such random meander to a young lady called Gin (Virginia) Wigmore. This ’86 born New Zealander has been compared to the uber cool Duffy. So here are some facts.
At 16, Wigmore lost her father and wrote a song, ‘Hallelujah’, that made her one of the youngest winners of the International Songwriting Competition held annually in the States. Ryan Adams was ecstatic when his band The Cardinals replaced him with Gin Wigmore after he decided to retire from the music industry. She now has an album out called ‘Holy Smoke’ that was produced by guru Mike Elizondo (Maroon 5, Nelly Furtado) which prompted the New York Post to go all emphatic and say, "Make mine a Gin Wigmore!"
She’s all raspy vocals, edgy music and it’s been a really long time since a female artist sounded this original.
