Gay AMU prof found dead: Was it suicide?

Lucknow , April 7: Prof. Srinivas Siras of Aligarh Muslim University, who had hit the headlines a few months ago for having gay sex with a rickshaw-puller, was found dead at his house in Aligarh on Wednesday evening.

Dr Siras was found dead at his house around 6 pm, and preliminary investigations reveal that he could have committed suicide by consuming poison. Some white powder was found on his lips, police sources said.
No suicide note has been found yet. The professor’s body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigations are on. Prof. Siras was videotaped having sex with a rickshaw-puller at his AMU campus residence by his own students, and was suspended by AMU in February this year. The suspension was subsequently stayed by the Allahabad high court on April 1, and the court also directed AMU officials to allow him to continue staying on campus.
Prof Siras, who was close to retirement, taught Mara-thi at AMU and was the chairman of its Modern Ind-ian Languages department.
