D.C. ‘snowzilla’ breaks 110-year record
The US Capitol is seen at twilight in Washington D.C. on Wednesday. The city’s National Weather Service said Washington’s winter snowfall broke a 110-year-old record with Wednesday’s blizzard setting a new mark at 139.4 cm. The second blizzard in a week buried the US northeast, leaving thousands without power. From Washington to Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York, cities largely ground to a halt with governments shut down, public transport scaled back, thousands of flights cancelled and some highways closed.
