Actor almost dies shooting suicide scene

Bhubaneswar, March 3: An Oriya small screen actor on Wednesday narrowly escaped death while staging a suicide scene at Cuttack, 30 km from here, for a mega serial on a local television channel, sources in the TV channel said.

Suchitra Swain, lead female actor in Topae Sindoora (A Dot of Vermillion) for Oriya TV channel Taranga, was enacting a suicide scene for which she climbed on a small table to reach the ceiling fan after tying a sari around her neck. While trying to fix the other side of the cloth to the fan, she accidentally slipped off the stool and remained hanging for a while.
The entire shooting crew immediately rushed to her rescue and removed the sari from her neck.
She became unconscious for a while due to choking, but recovered after she was given first aid by the unit members.
