‘Music worked as a magnet for girls’
Â
I pursued my bachelor of music from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. It was a beautiful campus and the three years I spent there were memorable.ÂDue to the difference in the course calendar here in India and Australia, I had six months spare before I left for college in Australia. So, just to get a hang of the "DU culture" I got enrolled into the English Honours course at Sri Venkateswara College. I clearly remember, how I never attended lectures and when I tried sitting in class my professors would drive me away. They knew I was there just for a while and wasn’t academically inclined.
The canteen at Venky and its idli joint was the place to hang out in campus. Many girls from our college and nearby colleges like JMC would come there and the food was simply amazing. But more than college I enjoyed my life in junior college.
During Class 11 and 12, I was in a band and travelled a lot to the fests at IITs and BITS, Pilani. And those have been the most cherished memories till date. I remember how once in Pilani I was the only one carrying an instrument bag and my friends begged me to hide some booze in the saxophone bell. Australia was an interesting experience. We had lectures throughout the day.
Aussies love sports and they would gym, play squash and swim in between class breaks.
I’m in touch with most of my school friends, and also with a lot of my friends from Down Under.
During the months I spent in DU, I had made two girlfriends, I guess it’s the magnetism of music that works.
