Michelle holds 2nd seed
Tamil Nadu’s Michelle Catherina came up with a strong show, holding second seed and Fide Master Rucha Pujari of Maharashtra 6-6 in the eighth round of the 28th national junior girls Under-19 chess championship in Lucknow.
Earlier, Goa’s Maria Furtado collected a point as she downed M. Mahalakshmi 7-6 in a close encounter.
In the men’s section, Gireman Ja of Tamil Nadu beat Delhi’s 11th seed and Candidate Master Prince Bajaj 6-5, while statemete Lokesh P. settled for a draw (5.5) with Kerala’s Yohan J.
Third seed and IM Prasanna Raghuram Rao of Maharashtra beat Madhya Pradesh’s 26th seed Gajwa Ankit 6-5 in the eighth round. West Bengal’s Das Sayantan got the better of 13th seed Visakh of TN 7.5-6.
