Work commences on new township
The Tamil Nadu Housing Board authorities have initiated preliminary works for establishing a satellite township at Thirumalisai on 446.49 acre.
The board’s officials led by chairman R. Murugaiah Pandian inspected the project site and sought people’s cooperation in setting up the project.
Steps are on to acquire portions of the government poromboke land and also land belonging to private landholders.
It has been proposed to acquire land to lay an approach road for Rs 2,160 crore project close to the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway.
Mr Murugaiah Pandian who interacted with private land owners, recently, urged them to extend their support to the towhship project and assured to take their demands to the notice and favourable action of the chief minister.
He underscored the importance of commencing the project soon The project, aiming to build 12,000 flats in the neighbouring Tiruvallur district, had met with stiff resistence by villagers, who protested against the acquisition of about 12.87 acres.
The township will cover villages in Chembarambakkam, Kuthambakkam, Parvatharajapuram, Narasingapuram and Vellavedu.
According to an official, the process of acquiring lands would be completed soon and the work would commence shortly.
It would benefit the economically weaker sections and middle-income groups as it would be provided at affordable rates.
This new satellite township at suburban Thirumazhisai would have all basic facilities like drinking water, drainage, rain water harvesting, street lights, community hall, schools, hospital, bus stand, park and playground.
The state government had announced the project to help the people on account of rapid expansion of Chennai and the skyrocketting real estate prices.
